October 2026’s Nintendo Switch 2 Complete Edition has brought a new wave of completionists to Krat, and Cryptic Vessels remain the most commonly missed requirement for Veteran Explorer. Solving all six grants hunting apparel, 3 Quartz, and 2 Legion Caliber, but v1.13.1.0 preserves permanent missable flags, so Venigni’s turn-ins must happen before Arche Abbey’s point of no return.

Base Game Cryptic Vessels: Full Locations, Solutions & Rewards

Talk to Venigni at Hotel Krat whenever a vessel requests decryption. Follow the order below, and finish every hand-in before progressing too far into Chapter 11; otherwise, the Veteran Explorer achievement can be locked out under patch v1.13.1.0.

Crafted Cryptic Vessel — Chapter 4, St. Frangelico Cathedral Chapel

Climb the wooden tower, push the flaming brazier from its ledge, then search the cleared acidic pool for the hidden staircase and chest. After Venigni decrypts it, return to Krat City Hall Stargazer, backtrack to Alchemist Bridge, and hit the hanging puppet with a throwable such as a Sawtoothed Wheel. Take its letter to Inside the House on Elysion Boulevard Stargazer, cross the balcony plank, enter door 221b, and open the safe. Reward: Owl Doctor’s Hunting Apparel and 1 Quartz.

Jeweled Cryptic Vessel — Chapter 6, Estella Opera House

In the dark room with two ladders, take the ladder leading to the upper small ledge and open the chest. At Cerasani Alley in Chapter 1, pass the phone booth, stand at the ocean-facing cliff tip, and use Check Ground. Reward: The Atoned’s Hunting Apparel and 1 Legion Caliber.

Old Cryptic Vessel — Chapter 8, Barren Swamp Bridge

Exhaust Rookie Explorer Hugo’s dialogue by the gate to receive it. At Path of the Pilgrim Stargazer, ride the elevator down, speak with the Slum Resident, take the Robbers’ Shack Key, and open the shack behind him; jump over the floor gap instead of stepping into the trap. Reward: Life Amulet +1 and 1 Legion Caliber.

Rusty Cryptic Vessel — Hotel Krat, Chapter 9 prerequisite

Find the Special Krat Supply Box in Collapsed Street and give it to Polendina, then buy the vessel for 1,000 Ergo. At Barren Swamp Bridge, use the opened gate beside Hugo and follow the route through Hermit’s Cave to its end. Reward: Black Cat’s Hunting Apparel and 1 Quartz.

Alidoro’s Cryptic Vessel — Chapter 10, Relic of Trismegistus

After defeating the Black Rabbit Brotherhood for the second time, continue to Alidoro and kill him to obtain the vessel. Bring it to Venigni and read the decryption; this is also required for Eugénie’s side quest. Your choice determines whether you receive the Far East Princess or Proposal, Flower, Wolf Part 1 Record.

Mechanical Cryptic Vessel — Chapter 11, Arche Abbey Broken Rift

Search the foggy machinery area for the chest behind a divider guarded by a powerful puppet. After obtaining Frozen Feast from Champion Victor’s Ergo, travel to Abandoned Apartment Stargazer in Chapter 9, find the Wandering Merchant near the cliff, equip the weapon, and speak with him. Reward: Red Fox’s Hunting Apparel and 1 Quartz. Complete this turn-in before leaving the safe progression window around Arche Abbey.

Overture DLC Cipher Machine Bonus Content

The Overture expansion, released June 6, 2025, adds two Cipher Machines that function like high-level Cryptic Vessels. They are separate from the six base-game requirements, but both count toward the DLC’s Overture Historian achievement.

Corroded Cipher Machine — Krat Zoo, Jungle Area: Find the Vanished Taxidermist at Savanna Center and follow the resulting clue. Reward: Royal Horn Bow and Quartz.

Bloody Cipher Machine — Eventide Hotel: Complete Kitten’s Quest in the Hall of Adventure to resolve the machine. Reward: Sherlock Holmes Outfit.
